Getting Ideas for Home Businesses
Most people think it’s hard to get ideas for homes businesses. They think it involves huge research, lots of money and exceptional insight. Nonsense! It’s just not that hard to get started. Especially today, starting an internet business can be done in a few days with little upfront investment.
How do you start getting ideas for home businesses? Here’s one way to get the thought process started. Take out a clean sheet of paper and across the top write “Brainstorming About Me.” Now list 10 things you like to do or that you consider yourself to be good at. These could be hobbies, things you do for enjoyment, subjects you like to read about – list anything that comes to mind.
Remember this is brainstorming just keep listing items until you have 10. Now do the same for things you don’t consider yourself to be good at or that you don’t like to do. Again shoot for 10. You may find that what you don’t like to do has something to do with what you do like or are good at. As an example you may consider yourself good at sales but you hate to travel. Or perhaps you love to travel but you hate the frustration of making all the arrangements.
Look for any frustrations that you have in doing the things you like or are good at. If you find certain things frustrating maybe others do as well. There may be a business idea in providing a product or service that that solves the problem.
Don’t overlook publications in your search for a business or product idea. Books, newspapers, magazines all provide a wealth of ideas just waiting to be grabbed. You reading list should include the latest business periodicals. Inspiration can be anywhere. Is there a household chore that absolutely drives you up the wall? Common sources of frustration or irritation are great idea generators.
Don’t forget those hobbies. They can lead to great business ideas. Think about what would make your hobby more enjoyable. Maybe it’s a new product or service that others would appreciate and find useful.
Don’t forget what we are doing here. We’re brainstorming ideas. Don’t pass judgment on the viability of any the ideas you come up with. That will come next. Just get a good list of as many ideas as you can. I’ve seen too many people get totally frustrated at this point and quit. They believe they could never come up with anything unique enough to be viable.
In future articles we’re going to discuss how to evaluate market potential so you can pick something that will be a viable long term business with good strong demand in the market. Remember, there are ways to develop a very profitable business selling products that are already available, where you receive a commission for selling them to your market.
More about this topic later. For right now just spend some serious time brainstorming ideas and get those creative juices flowing.
