Make the Leap or be Left Behind
The face of network marketing has changed dramatically over the years. The old school approach had you contacting friends, family and co-workers to tell them about your business opportunity. There were weekly training calls where you were to invite prospects to here all about the great business opportunity you were a part of and how they could enjoy immense wealth by joining and following the simple marketing plan that was being laid out. Well a lot of that still goes on. But look around. The really big names in network marketing are doing something much different.
The big names are treating network marketing just like any other type of internet marketing. In fact, the really successful players make no distinction between network marketing and internet marketing. This means you need the same skills, the same tools and the same approaches as any other internet marketer. This is in fact just another form of direct response marketing. I like to think of it as direct network marketing. So, while the old school approach to network marketing may still work, if you want to super-charge your results, you are going to have to become an internet marketer – a master of direct network marketing.
Some might say they have been using the internet to build their downline for a long time. What’s the big deal? Well the big deal is that most network marketers have built their teams through the internet not using the internet as a strategic marketing tool. What do I mean? Typically most network marketers will buy leads on the internet from various sources. These leads are usually from people who at one time or another submitted their email for information on new business opportunities or information on a home business opportunity. Most of the time, these leads are very old and get colder every day. Yet a lot of time and effort is expended emailing these leads trying to get them interested in your particular opportunity. The conversion rate is expectedly poor.
It is time all network marketers approach the business from an online direct sales perspective - direct network marketing. This means becoming a very good internet marketer. It means learning the skills of direct response marketing. You need to be able to find targeted buyers who are interested right now in the business opportunity you are offering. In internet marketing terms, you need to learn how to develop an internet presence with your own website. You need to learn how to do key word research to find out what potential network marketers are searching for and get your message in front of them when they search the web for opportunities.
You need to learn copywriting. This is the lifeblood of direct response marketing. This is where you make your opportunity standout from all the rest. This is where you capture the attention of potential members of your team. You need to learn to sell. As we have all heard so often “… nobody is a born salesman.” The skills have to be learned. In the case of direct online sales – the skill is copywriting. Make no mistake about it. You are selling your network marketing opportunity just the same as if you were selling garden furniture or anything else that is sold on the internet.
One of the biggest parts of being a successful internet marketer is the ability to build a list of buyers. Not just a list of prospects but a list of buyers. These are prospects that very quickly pull out their wallet and buy. In the case of network marketing this may mean getting them to move up from a free membership or to purchase recurring products month after month. Here’s where I think a lot of network marketers go wrong. Even if they are successful at building a team or downline, that list is not really theirs. It belongs to the network marketing company. If it goes away so does your list. Every network market needs to build an asset – a list. I call that asset based network marketing. It gives you more flexibility to sell related or complimentary products to your list as an affiliate marketer. This can greatly enhance your monthly income. Today if I were looking for an online home business opportunity I would look for one that had both a traditional network marketing or MLM component - one where you could build a team and receive a commission override on their sales - and an affiliate marketing component where I could earn commissions on product sales to none members. This is the foundation of direct network marketing.Having such a component opens up the sales opportunity to the entire online world.
It’s time for all network marketers to rethink their approach and utilize direct network marketing. Learn the skills needed to be a true internet marketer. Then do your research and find an opportunity that will let you expand your sales and your downline. If you do this you will be assured a building a real business – a long term asset.
